The Gift of leading: “Guardian”

“if it is to lead, do it diligently” Romans 12:8

In The Greek: Proistemi - To be a protector or Guardian. The etymology comes from two words that separately mean “before” and “stand”. Put together, the idea connotes someone who goes before for the purpose of protection.

Guardians are loyal, honest, and faithful. They are great friends, who are dependable and trustworthy. They are protectors of people, and protectors of integrity. They are ethical, with a strong sense of right and wrong, deeply valuing loyalty and honesty. They have a sense of responsibility and thrive in any role where there is a team working together. Guardians are great in roles that require preparation and detail. They don’t move too quickly, but they move with purpose. Administrative roles, accounting, financial management, project management, risk assessment, are roles where you can find Guardians excelling.

Moses was the Guardian of Israel. He had the ability to anticipate what was coming and adapt to it. When God called Moses to deliver Israel, he immediately started running the “what if” scenarios. Whether it was mapping out grazing pastures in a desert or developing an escape route for survival, Moses was anticipating dangers and making plans to avoid them. He organized the tribes, allocated their supplies and kept 3 million Israelites alive in a desert for 40 years. He was organized and prepared with a plan for any challenges that may arise. You are safe and secure in the presence of a Guardian.
